1 Corinthians 13:4-7

4 “Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong sufferedit does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

Paul is listing the characteristics of love. This love is who God is at His core and is the same love that God is producing within believers. Notice that Paul is effectively describing the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). This means that God is not wanting us to practice each of these attributes in order to somehow become more loving. He simply wants us to receive His love and transmit it. According to Paul, we already have the entirety of love dwelling within us. We do not need to somehow come up with more of it. We as new creations are a perfect fit for God’s agape love and are inherently loving. We are designed to express these attributes of love.

Believes all things: Christ is working within His children to assume the best about people.
