1 Corinthians 15:42-49

42 “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body45 So also it is written: “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” The last Adam was a life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. 47 The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. 48 As is the earthy one, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly one, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.”

Perishable…imperishable: Our human bodies are perishable. However, at the resurrection of the dead, we are given a new imperishable body. Regardless of when we die, we awaken at the sound of the trumpet and are raised imperishable in the twinkling of an eye.

First Adam…last Adam: Adam became a living person and was the beginning of the human race. Jesus is called the last Adam and is called such because He is the beginning of a new creation. This new creation begins personally when we believe in Jesus. But there is a time coming when the full reality of this new creation is revealed in our resurrection.

As is the earthy one…heavenly one: All who are born in Adam are like Adam. We are born spiritually dead and in need of Jesus. However, all who are in Christ are of Christ. We are like Jesus and will bear the image of the heavenly.
