1 Timothy 1:8-11

“But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and worldly, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, homosexuals, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, 11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.”

The Old Covenant law is not for believers who have been made righteous in Christ (see 2 Corinthians 5:21). The law is for sinners that the depth of their sinfulness may be seen clearly. Nowhere in the New Testament does Paul refer to believers as sinners. Instead, the law is for those who are inherently immoral.

According to the glorious gospel: The Gospel, which delivers people from the affliction of sin, is here described by Paul as glorious. There is never a fly in the ointment in the Gospel. God is never asking for more from believers. He is not in love with a future version of us. This is what makes the Gospel so glorious.
