1 Corinthians 1:4-9
4 “I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge, 6 just as the testimony concerning Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you eagerly await the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will also confirm you to the end, blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Verse 4: Paul begins by expressing his gratitude to God for the Corinthians. He acknowledges the grace that has been given to them through their union with Christ Jesus. This grace is not something they earned or deserved, but a gift freely given by God. It’s a beautiful reminder that everything we have in our Christian walk is a result of God’s grace.
Verse 5: Paul continues by highlighting the ways in which the Corinthians have been enriched in Christ. Through their union with him, they have received an abundance of spiritual gifts, including various forms of speech and knowledge. This reminds us that in Christ, we have been given everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). We are complete in him and lack nothing.
Verse 6: Paul emphasizes that it is God who confirms the testimony about Christ among the Corinthians. It’s not about human eloquence or persuasive words, but about the power of God at work. This reminds us that our faith is not based on human wisdom or clever arguments, but on the power of God’s Spirit working in us.
Verse 7: Paul reassures the Corinthians that they lack no spiritual gift as they eagerly await the return of Jesus Christ. This is a reminder that as believers, we have been equipped with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). We have all we need to live a godly life and to fulfill the purposes God has for us.
Verse 8-9: Paul concludes by assuring the Corinthians that God will keep them firm until the end. They can have confidence that they will be blameless on the day of Jesus Christ’s return. This is not because of their own efforts, but because of God’s faithfulness. He has called them into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ, and this fellowship is secure and unbreakable.
