1 Timothy 5:23-24
23 “Do not go on drinking only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.24 The sins of some people are quite evident, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins follow after. 25 Likewise also, deeds that are good are quite evident, and those which are otherwise cannot be concealed.”
Verse 23: Paul advises Timothy to stop drinking only water and instead suggests that he use a little wine for the sake of his stomach and frequent illnesses. This instruction shows Paul’s concern for Timothy’s well-being and his practical approach to addressing physical ailments. It is important to note that Paul does not encourage Timothy to rely solely on prayer or spiritual means for healing, but rather acknowledges the potential benefits of using wine as a medicinal remedy.
Verse 24: Paul acknowledges that the sins of certain individuals are evident and apparent, leading to immediate consequences and judgment. On the other hand, he recognizes that the sins of others may not be immediately evident but will eventually catch up to them. This statement highlights the importance of discernment and accountability within the church, as well as the understanding that God is the ultimate judge who sees and knows all things.
