Colossians 2:6-7

6 “Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.”

Verse 6: Paul encourages the believers in Colossae to continue living their lives in Christ, just as they received him as Lord. How did they receive him? Faith. Notice that the Christian life is not intended to become works-oriented after salvation. Rather, we are saved through faith and we live our lives by faith afterward; faith in the Son of God to live his life through us.

Verse 7: Paul urges the believers to be rooted and built up in Christ, finding their foundation and strength in him. This means being rooted and established in grace, not rules-based religion. This also echoes the New Covenant truth that our identity and growth come from our union with Christ. We are strengthened in the faith as we continue to learn and grow in our understanding of who He is and what He has done for us. This leads to a heart of gratitude and thankfulness, as we recognize the abundant blessings we have received in Christ.
