Ephesians 1:11-14

11 “In Him we also have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things in accordance with the plan of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in the Christ would be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of the promise,14 who is a first installment of our inheritance, in regard to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.”

Verse 11: Paul is emphasizing that in Christ, we have been chosen and predestined according to God’s plan. It is important to note that this predestination is not about individual salvation, but rather about God’s plan to include both Jews and Gentiles in Christ. It is a reminder that God is in control and works everything out according to His will.

Verse 12: Paul is highlighting the role of the early Jewish believers in putting their hope in Christ. They serve as a testimony to God’s faithfulness and bring praise to His glory. It is a reminder that our faith in Christ is not just for our own benefit, but also for the glory of God.

Verse 13: Paul is addressing the Gentile believers, emphasizing that they too have been included in Christ. Through hearing and believing the message of truth, they have been sealed with the Holy Spirit. This seal serves as a guarantee of their salvation and their belonging to God.

Verse 14: Paul is highlighting the role of the Holy Spirit as a deposit guaranteeing our future inheritance. The Holy Spirit is a sign of God’s ownership and a guarantee of our future redemption. Again, this is all for the praise of God’s glory.
