Galatians 1:6-10

6 “I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel, 7 which is not just another account; but there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!9 As we have said before, even now I say again: if anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!10 For am I now seeking the favor of people, or of God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.”

Verse 6: Paul expresses his astonishment at the Galatians’ swift departure from the true gospel. He reminds them that it was God who called them into the grace of Christ, emphasizing the divine initiative in their salvation. However, he is troubled by their turning to a different gospel, which suggests that they are adding requirements of the law to the finished work of Christ.

Verse 7: Paul clarifies that there is no other true gospel apart from the one he preached to them. However, he acknowledges that there are individuals who are causing trouble and seeking to distort the gospel of Christ. These individuals are introducing legalistic teachings that undermine the sufficiency of Christ’s work and the freedom found in the New Covenant.

Verse 8: Paul issues a strong warning, stating that even if he or anyone else, including an angel from heaven, were to preach a gospel that contradicts the true gospel, they should be accursed. This underscores the seriousness of deviating from the message of grace and highlights the importance of holding fast to the truth of the gospel.

Verse 9: Paul reiterates his previous statement, emphasizing the gravity of preaching a gospel that is contrary to the one the Galatians had received. He emphasizes that anyone who promotes such a distorted gospel should be accursed. This underscores the importance of discerning and holding fast to the true message of grace.

Verse 10: Paul addresses any potential accusations or misunderstandings about his motives. He clarifies that his primary concern is not seeking the approval or pleasing of man, but rather pleasing God. He affirms his commitment to being a servant of Christ, which means faithfully proclaiming the true gospel, even if it goes against popular opinion or cultural expectations.
