1 Peter 2:7-10

7 “This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for unbelievers,

‘A stone which the builders rejected,
This became the chief cornerstone,’

and,

‘A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense’;

for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this they were also appointed.But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

Chief cornerstone: God took Jesus, the one rejected by humanity, and made Him the cornerstone of all creation. He is eternal life itself. Notice that the cornerstone of the faith is not doctrine or theology. It is a person. Jesus Christ is the foundation for Christianity.

Also appointed: Before creation, the Trinity planned to save people through Christ. He is the cornerstone and the only way to the Father. However, God also determined that all who reject Christ will face judgment.

A holy nation: God’s people are holy. We are not becoming more holy progressively. By one sacrifice we have been made perfectly cleansed (see also Hebrews 10:14).
