Colossians 2:6-7

“Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.”

As you received Christ: The same grace that saves us, empowers us for a godly life. Paul left no room to compartmentalize grace for salvation and grace for life afterwards. We were saved by dependence on Christ, and we can continue in this same dependence. Whenever Jesus and His finished work is not in focus, religion creeps into our faith. But this will always become a distraction from Christ. This will always be an addition to the Gospel. Instead, we are to know the indwelling Christ within us moment-by-moment.

Overflowing with gratitude: Law-based religion will never produce gratitude. Gratitude will only come from us when we are rooted and bult up in Him, the very grace of God. If we find ourselves without gratitude towards God, it means that we only have a partial understanding of the Gospel. The Gospel will naturally yield thankfulness.
