Ephesians 5:22-24

22 “Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.”

Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands: Much needless controversy has surrounded this verse. Having urged Christians in general to submit to one another in love (Ephesians 5:21), Paul now begins applying this concept to the marriage context. Wives are to serve their husbands and be subject to their needs. Paul is not at all saying that wives need to be doormats. He is simply showing wives how they can love their husbands. Next, he focuses on how husbands are to love, or submit to, their wives (Ephesians 5:25-33).
