Hebrews 2:9-13

19 “But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of His suffering death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the originator of their salvation through sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for this reason He is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters12 saying,

‘I will proclaim Your name to My brothers,
In the midst of the assembly I will sing Your praise.’

13 And again,

‘I will put My trust in Him.’

And again,

‘Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.’

He might taste death for everyone: The Son of God was willing to humiliate Himself, being presented as a person humiliated on the cross. All of this occurred so that He would taste death and suffering for the world. Religion all over the world tries to propitiate or satisfy a deity. But in Christianity, we do not need to try and satisfy our God. Everything God values He gives to us in terms of His Son. Jesus experienced broken fellowship with the Father and divine wrath. All of this so that we would not need to experience these things. God required one sacrifice: Himself. God is satisfied in Christ’s death.

Not ashamed to call them brethren: Believers often experience shame because of their failings or perceived failings in the Christian life. But shame is not of the Gospel. The author of Hebrews reminds his readers of this. Jesus, and the entire Godhead, is not ashamed of us. He has removed all of our sins. As a result, believers are brothers and sisters of Jesus. But the author of Hebrews makes it clear that Jesus is also our brother and sees us as family. This is all based on the finished work of Christ. Christ has achieved a familial relationship with believers.

I and the children whom God has given Me: Jesus is saying that He is satisfied fully with all of the children that God has given to Him. Believers are a gift to Jesus because our sins are gone, and we are acceptable and pleasing to God. We can wake up knowing that God is well-pleased with us.
