Romans 12:9-13

9 “Love must be free of hypocrisy. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor, 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.”

Paul is not talking about ignoring our personal needs. He wants Christians to think about the needs of others in addition to their own needs. Jesus Christ fulfills us as we walk by His Spirit enabling us to love others freely from the heart and without agenda.

Diligence…fervent: The Christian life is not lazy. Grace does not insight laziness. We are to be energized in spirit and zealous to live from Christ. As we do this, we can discover what we want to do as part of the body of Christ, and do it. Some may love hospitality and others may love prayer in a special way. We each have a role to play.
