Romans 3:19-20

19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; 20 because by the works of the law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

The law tells us that righteousness is not attainable through obedience to its commands. All people are held accountable to God through the law. Yet Christians try to follow the law, don’t we? But we aren’t good at it. Sure, we may think we are keeping the sabbath but unless we are abstaining form all work from Friday evening to Saturday evening, we are not. So, the Ten Commandments becomes the big 9. But what about adultery? Nope, we still lust. The law brings the knowledge of sin and death: The depth of sin’s impact. There is no balance of law and grace. Those who invite us to a balance of law and grace bring us to a balance of sin and grace because the flesh wants to perform for the law, but it will lose every time.
