Romans 5:2-5

“Through whom we also have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we celebrate in hope of the glory of God.” And not only this, but we also celebrate in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

If we are at peace with God (Romans 5:1) Christians can do nothing better than simply stand in God’s grace. Grace makes us relax and enjoy God. Paul experienced this peace even in the midst of tribulations and struggles. The Holy Spirit continues to live through us in the midst of life, producing the proven character we need.

Christian growth is being acquainted with our weaknesses in the midst of tribulation, not getting stronger. As we experience our vulnerability, we depend on Jesus more. The tool for our growth is the love of God which the Spirit has poured out within our hearts. This love produces hope and fuel to face life. This is precisely why believers do not need the law: We have the love of God in our hearts. It doesn’t get any better than this!
