Romans 5:9-11

“Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only this, but we also celebrate in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.”

Paul wants to make sure the church in Rome understands that God has rescued them from wrath. This means that calamity is not from God. God does not punish us for sins. He’s also not distant from His children. We were reconciled when we were enemies. While we spend time praying to be closer to God, the cross has already brought us near to Him.

Saved by his life: While we are forgiven because of Christ’s death, we are saved through His resurrection. Because Jesus was raised from the dead so also are believers given a new nature (Romans 6:4).
